TITLE

Self-assembly of quantum dots on biocompatible substance using dopamine polymerization

Abstract

Recently, many researches have focused on the bio-application of quantum dots. As novel
inorganic fluorophores, quantum dots are generally accepted as sensing media due to their outstanding
optical properties. For bio-application, it is quite important to immobilize quantum dots on biocompatible
substance. Here we report a self-assembly of quantum dots bio-conjugates using dopamine polymerization.
Quantum dots are capped with 11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid, and then conjugated with dopamine using a
cross linker of EDC/NHS. Self-assembly of quantum dots occurs as a result of dopamine polymerization.
Under the catalysis of cupric ions, quantum dots conjugated polydopamine could been linked on the
biocompatible substance. The optical properities of the self-assembled quantum dots were investigated.
