TITLE

Development of hetero-selective pseudo base pair stabilized by charge-transfer interaction, and its hetero-duplex formation

Abstract

In this study, we developed a novel hetero-selective artificial duplex using electron donoracceptor
type pseudo base-pair. We adopted pyrene and anthraquinone as a donor and an acceptor
respectively, and found that pyrene/anthraquinone hetero-pair drastically stabilized the DNA duplex
thorough charge-transfer interaction when they were introduced at the center position of the strands.
Moreover, pyrene hexamer and anthraquinone hexamer formed a unique duplex by themselves. The
pyrene/anthraquinone pair was so stable, and even trimers formed a duplex. Thus, we successfully
desinged totally artificial duplex that is free from ribose and hydrogen bondings.
